Is a Colonic Painful?
Colonics are not painful. The speculums used at Pyure Natural Wellness, are tiny and roughly the size of a “pinky” finger. Each client is given a sterile, individually packaged lubricant to assist with providing comfort during the insertion process.
Can I Eat Before a Colonic?
Refrain from eating solid food at least three hours before the appointment. Getting colonics on a full stomach may cause you to feel nausea, intense cramping and at times vomiting. Liquid is fine.
Prepare and bring with you a list of all the supplements and/or prescription or non-prescription medications you are currently taking.
If you are not sure, please check with your pharmacist if any of the oral medications you are taking is steroidal anti-inflammatory.
What does the colon hydrotherapy session involve?
Each hydrotherapy session lasts approximately 30-40 min. You should allow a total of 1 hour for your first visit. Our Colon Hydrotherapist will discuss your symptoms (if any) and review your history. The procedure will be explained in full detail allowing sufficient time for questions.
During the session, you will be lying face up on a massage table with a drape across your lower body. You will then be asked to self-insert a small, plastic speculum. All materials are disposable and for one time use only. Clear tubing attaches the speculum to the hydrotherapy device. A gentle instillation of warm, clean, triple purified water circulates in the rectum. When the temperature is just right and you are ready to proceed, slow “fills” are given. Time to “soak” is allowed in between the fills. This assists in the vital importance of re-hydrating and re-toning your colon. This process will continue until you are ready to “release”. The instillation of water stops and the flow of accumulated waste (feces, mucous, yeast, toxins, bacteria, parasites.) begins. The waste is excreted via the attached plastic tubing and passes through the device and directly into the plumbing system. This is a self-contained system. There is NO ODOR, NO MESS and NO EMBARRASMENT. Remember, our main goals during this session are your safety, comfort and well-being. This process of “fill” and “release” is continued throughout the remainder of the session.
How many sessions will I need?
Each client is unique and the number of sessions depends on your personal situation. For example, someone that has chronic constipation (less than 1 bowel movement per day) may need several treatments over a two-week period; or if you are always bloated with constant abdominal discomfort. A client in this type of scenario will be placed on a wellness program, which consist of several colonics, in a series. Most of our clients are looking for preventative measures or just for an enhanced sense of well-being. Your appointment schedule and wellness program, is best determined during your consultation while going over your history. As an average rule of thumb, anyone looking for general detoxification would need a total of 5 to 8 sessions over a 3 to 4 week period. Those choosing to do a deeper, more complete cleanse may opt for 10 to 15 sessions over 4 to 8 weeks. Once your initial series is completed, maintenance can begin. Maintenance sessions are recommended at 1 visit per month. Maintenance is necessary to continue all the great benefits you have already given to your body with an initial series. Monthly cleanses help to keep toxic load at a minimum while continuing to decrease the burden on your other eliminative organs (i.e. liver, kidneys etc.).
Keep in mind that even though one hydrotherapy session may be equivalent to several bowel movements, elimination during subsequent sessions can be even more substantial as older, hardened, impacted feces are dislodged from the colon walls.
Why Are Colonics Important?
The colon has been referred to as the sewer system of the body. It is the place where we store the waste material that most of us would rather not think about and unfortunately most of us don’t until our health becomes poor or we feel constipated, have diarrhea or become seriously ill. Most people do not realize that their colon (aka large intestine/bowel) is FIVE to SIX Feet long and plays a major role in the outlook of our overall health. The prolonged storage of waste could result in toxic seepage through the colon wall and into our bloodstream (aka autointoxication). Since every tissue in the body is fed by the bloodstream, a vicious cycle may occur allowing free reign for disease proliferation and the overtaxing of other eliminative organs. In addition, colon cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the United States staking claim to as many as 130,000 people per year. Many believe that a precursor to colon cancer is prolonged exposure to accumulated toxins/carcinogens that adhere to the colon wall.
The American Cancer Society has provided evidence in recent years which suggest that environmental agents, such as insecticides, herbicides, preservatives in food, hormones, antibiotics fed to livestock and petroleum by-products may play a greater role in the predisposition to colon cancer.
The common plane is that we live in a fast-paced society that has given way to the standard use of refined, processed, chemically altered foods, over-prescribed and often consequential drug therapies and miniscule time for us to pay attention to the health of our very own bodies. So, why should you be concerned about your colon? Because it is your obligation to take control of your health and learn about treating the cause instead of treating the symptom.
Can I lose Weight from a Colonic?
Many patients can lose 5-15 pounds of waste weight after a series of colonics.
Can I get a colonic during my menstrual period?
Absolutely. In fact, getting a colonic during your menstrual cycle is usually a good time to receive a treatment since your body is already cleansing. Your flow will not interfere with the success of the treatment.
Will I experience any intestinal discomfort or fatigue after the cleansing?
Usually not, but since the cleansing will stir up a lot of old debris and toxins, you might experience some minor nausea or fatigue with your first session. If any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to rest and apply a warm heating pad to the abdomen. If you wish, a mild vegetable broth or peppermint tea is usually soothing at this time. Any discomfort will usually pass within 24 hours. Follow-up sessions provide the necessary means to continue sweeping and cleansing toxins which is often reported to produce an array of beneficial symptoms.
Can I go to work directly after a colon hydrotherapy session?
Absolutely. You can work just as you would after a normal bowel movement.
After a colon hydrotherapy session (colonic):
- It is not unusual that you may not have a bowel movement for a day or two after a colonic.
- Drink plenty of liquids, such as electrolytes, herbal teas and pure water.
- Take pro-biotic (good friendly bacteria) supplements or, if you are not allergic to dairy, eat plain yogurt with added friendly bacteria.
- Avoid eating raw vegetables and fruits for at least 3 hours; cooked are fine, such as soups.
- Reduce meat consumption or even better off, avoid meat for the rest of the day.
- Avoid sugars and dairy food products the day of your colonic.
- Any unpleasant symptoms, such as fatigue, headaches, nausea or cramping may be experienced throughout the day and will subside in 24 hours or less.
